Porn-O-Cupia!

Last night, I attended a midnight screening of 'Hot and Bothered' - a collection of some of the most famous porn clips by the "propreitrix" and staff of the delightful little sex store - Grand Opening. The screening was at the Coolidge Corner theatre in Brookline - one of the few surviving stand-alone art deco style theatres in the region. It was my first time in the theatre, and what an occassion - brought back strong memories of all my wonderful art deco theatre haunts in Bombay - gorgeous Regal near home, New Empire and Metro, which sadly, is no more. My companion for the evening was Chris Boulton, multi-media whizkid and young emerging academic to watch out for - check out his website - he's just the sort of emerging media guru that's going to make a difference in the world of tomorrow. Lucky me, eh, that I know him already! :-) The film clips were a mixed bag - there were some porno classics like the Mitchell brothers' Behind the Green Door , which was my favourite. Kind of arty.... the clip they showed had the film's heroine, the white Marilyn Chambers perform to the fast beat of a jazz piece, with a face-painted black man, wearing white tights, in a theatre/club kind of setting. I was already analyzing it and exploring so many different anthropological and cultural readings (fetishized native, fear/attraction to the black other, stereotypical racial imagery, and so on) when I was distracted by a wonderful lesbian flick with awesome sex, despite the cheesy music and atmosphere (30 candles, hot tub, etc) - and multiple orgasms with a two way silicon gel type of dildo that simply have to be seen to be believed. Some other highlights - an amateur type of college film - with this jock going at it with two girls - with his shoes and socks on, and a pirate kind of role play, which was a hilarious way to end the evening. I was slightly disappointed that there weren't any pure-gay clips showed... but, oh well. Chalega! "Come again," boomed our host for the evening, the legendary Kim Airs (the aforementioned propreitrix of Grand Opening) as we trooped out into the frosty Boston night. We sure will, ma'am. ;-)
